I admit, I like to procrastinate A LOT! I didn’t have prices marked on my items because I couldn’t find my price tags (still haven’t) I had things CHEAP because the anxiety of having all of this “stuff” is driving me crazy! I like to give a group price for items based on what buyers get. Here are some helpful tips for having your own yard sale:
1. Advertise, advertise, advertise. I am not talking about paying to advertise but hang signs along the road, post on Facebook and social media, post on sites like Offer Up and Craigslist that you are having a Yard Sale. Did you know there is an app called Yard Sale Treasure Map that Craigslist has? If you list your Yard Sale on CL, your listing will go right on the app so those using the app can find you easily.
2. Take pictures of your items and list them on local Facebook Sale groups. How many times have you wanted to go to a Yard Sale but weren’t sure if it was worth your time? I know if I see something on a FB group it will draw me to the sale quickly.
3. Arrange your items according to items. I like to group all of my toys and kids stuff together, housewares, tools and so on. It makes it easier for people to look, I think.
4. If you are selling electric items, have an extension cord available for them to test an item. Same goes for items that have a battery. Chances are, buyers are more likely to buy an item if they know it works 100%.
5. Create a pleasant shopping experience. Who wants to shop at a grumpy yard sale? Interact with the customer, ask if they are local etc.
6. Set up a Lemonade stand if you have kids. People love to support little entrepreneurs.
7. Have change available. If you are having a sale on the weekend, chances are people will have larger bills from getting paid.
8. MAKE SURE ITEMS AREN’T RECALLED.
9. Don’t overprice items. No one wants to feel like they are being taken at a Yard sale. They usually want to haggle and get a great deal.
