England’s Rebecca Welch, Emily Carney and David Coote have been selected as match officials for the Olympic football tournament at the Paris 2024 Games this summer.

The trio will operate as referee, assistant referee and video assistant referee respectively.

Welch became the first woman to referee a Premier League fixture in December.

The 40-year-old is one of 21 referees selected by Fifa among a total of 89 match officials from 45 countries.

The men’s tournament will take place between 24 July and 9 August, while the women’s competition begins on 25 July and concludes on 10 August – with both gold medal matches held at the Parc des Princes.

The VAR system and goal‑line technology will be in place throughout the tournaments, including semi‑automated offside technology.
