Save yourself hundreds on yarn and kit you don’t need, and knit with confidence. My three books show you how: https://susies-knitting-essentials.lovable.app
How to save money on yarn: 9 secrets every knitter and crocheter should know. If cheap yarn has been hard to find since Joann closed nearly 800 stores, these tips will help you knit on a budget without giving up quality.
We start with the cost-per-yard sum that shows which skein is really the bargain. Then we cover the yarn clearance calendar (late January to February, late August to September, and early March), discontinued colors and dye lots, and coned mill yarn, including why you should always wash and swatch it first.
Next come the low-cost and no-cost options: yarn swaps, secondhand yarn on Ravelry, Etsy, Mercari, Freecycle and Craigslist, and thrift-store yarn bags that sell for a few dollars. Then stash sales, where good yarn often goes for half of retail or less.
Finally, the wartime secret from Britain’s 1943 Make Do and Mend booklet: “Unpick and Knit Again.” You’ll learn how to unravel a thrifted sweater for yarn, which seams to look for, and how to wash reclaimed yarn so it’s ready to knit.
Which secret surprised you most? Tell us in the comments.
