The computer repair industry is dying in high-wage countries. The combination of cheap tech also being unrepairable, and the rising labor costs outside of developing countries, has led to devices costing more to repair than they’re even worth. Budget minded consumers have no option now but to buy unrepairable, disposable laptops. But I want to change that by selling them a refurbished ThinkPad that’s better built and more repairable, for the same price or cheaper than a brand new budget consumer laptop. While specialized services like PC building and data recovery still remain profitable, old fashioned part swapping technology repair places like mine are on their last leg unless they too specialize in another service or evolve into a Managed Service Provider. Even if I don’t make a huge profit, this is my way of fighting back at an industry that continues to take advantage of the most vulnerable.
