All eyes in the men’s race will be on two runners from
Uganda: Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo. Cheptegei holds the
World Record time for both the 5,000m and the 10,000m. He won at Tokyo 2020 in the 10,000m and has three World titles in this
distance.
It was his compatriot Kiplimo who won gold in 2023. He also
won gold at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in both the 5,000m and the
10,000m. Kiplimo’s history in this event goes back to 2017, winning gold in the Junior
race on home turf.
The
women’s defending champion Beatrice Chebet of Kenya returns, a year
after taking the inaugural World 5,000m title and two years on from gold in
Birmingham.
GB’s Abbie Donnelly conests the women’s race, Donnelly claimed individual bronze at last year’s European Championships.
Compatriot Will Barnicoat is making his debut in the men’s race just three months
on from winning the U23 gold at the European Championships.
